Actions for Week of April 18
Fulfill our ideals, stop voter suppression, and city council poll results
IDEALS VS REALITY
A 20 year old man, killed for no reason, the same for a 13 year old boy. Meanwhile another man, who assaulted two police officers, and then fled, lives to get his mug shot. The difference is that the first two were Black.
Enough.
The current police system must be upended/defunded/undone and reimagined. They are simply not qualified to perform all the social services tasks they are asked to do. Plus, when they do respond, particularly when people of color are involved, the response is to spy, threaten, detain on a mass scale, and kill. More on supporting Black lives here. If you are able, you can donate to organizations fighting for justice.
CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE POLL
The results are in!
Following a candidate forum and membership poll, Indivisible UES is proud to announce the top two finishers in our ranked choice endorsement for City Council District 5!

DC STATEHOOD
DC has more people than Wyoming or Vermont, but no voting representation in the House, and no representation at all in the Senate. It's yet another way to suppress Black voters and strengthen rural influence in the Senate. There will be a vote in the full House this week.
Use the handy tool at the link to write letters to the editor and pressure Congress and the public to do the right thing.
