Actions for Week of May 1, 2022

Help These Progressive Flowers Bloom!

Tuesday, May 3, 7:30PM – 8:30PM

WRITE TO VOTERS IN FLORIDA WITH US

Write letters to registered Democrats in Florida to urge them to vote in the November election.  Vote Forward provides the letters addressed to registered Democrats who might not vote without our encouragement.

We’ll meet regularly through October on Zoom, and we should be able to contribute hundreds of letters to the cause! Our first session is on Tuesday, May 3rd, via Zoom. We’ll have 20 letters for you to download, with a space in each for you to hand-write a few sentences about why voting is important to you personally, and why it’s important for all voters to get out in November. The letters will be sent in October.

If you cannot attend on Monday, just write anytime to signal your interest and we'll include you for future sessions.

RSVP to melinda.indivisible.ues@gmail.com by Monday, May 1 for a Zoom link and letters to download before the Tuesday meeting.

Wednesday, May 4th, 2-2:30pm
Swing Left Orientation

During this 30-minute volunteer orientation, we’ll cover Swing Left’s strategy, how to find the most effective volunteer opportunities in the most competitive race near you, and we’ll offer ways to get involved starting right now.

Democrats can win in November, despite what the GOP wants us to believe. We can protect and expand our majorities in Congress and build up Democratic power in the states, both of which will help safeguard our democracy. Join this orientation to learn more about how Swing Left can be your go-to hub for the tools and programs to help turn out voters in key races up and down the ballot.

Wednesday, May 4th, 7-9
Back Room Atrium of Draught 55, 245 East 55th Street
UES Progressives is proud to have endorsed two progressive candidates, Rana Abdelhamid (running for Congress in NY-12) and Alex Bores (running for Assembly in AD-73).

They will be hosting an informal get together with both candidates for progressives to meet them and each other. Everyone has been online for far too long and this is the opportunity to relax and chat with the candidates and their staff. Get answers to your hard-hitting questions and perhaps sign up to volunteer for their campaigns.

ACTION NEEDED BEFORE JUNE 2nd
from Common Cause:
We need to contact our representatives to urge them to pass the Hybrid Voting Machine Ban bill as soon as possible.

Hybrid machines pose a security risk: they can produce unreliable paper ballots, making audits nearly impossible. They are also cumbersome and expensive. Banning hybrid machines and barcodes on ballots will give New York voters confidence that their vote is cast and counted accurately.

Call your representatives to tell them that taxpayer money shouldn't be spent on these unreliable and expensive machines. We need secure elections.
Assembly Member Dan Quart (212) 605-0937
Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright (212) 288-4607
State Senator Liz Krueger (212) 490-9535

UWS MoveOn/Indivisible/SwingLeft Deep Canvassing in Bethlehem PA - Carpool from NYC Sat. May 14th 9am-7pm
Join Upper West Side MoveOn/Indivisible SwingLeft volunteers to knock on doors for a competitive race! We carpool there & back from NYC, also looking into public transit possibilities. This is the first of our canvassings door- to-door in Lehigh Valley. Next trip will be the weekend of May 21-22.

Take action to build the grassroots power Democrats need to win: talking to voters face to face is one of the single most important things. We’ll cover everything you need to know, and once you get going, you'll find that talking to voters is fun and rewarding.
