Schumer, Filibuster, and Voting Rights (oh my)

Actions for Week of March 14, 2021

Chat with Senator Schumer, stop voter suppression, and end GOP obstruction

Actions for Week of March 14 2021

MEETING RECAP

Remember when I said “We’ve got the power?” Well our reps are sitting up and taking notice. They are reaching out to us, rather than the other way around.

We can use that power to nudge them to do what we want (such as supporting SR1 (to make voting easier, end the gerrymander, and more), HR4 (to restore the Voting Rights Act that the Roberts court gutted), ending  the filibuster, and raising the minimum wage.

HR1 (VOTING RIGHTS)

Voting rights legislation is especially critical because GOP-led legislatures across the country are frantically trying to suppress voting any way they can.

There are currently over 165 proposals to restrict mail in voting, tighten voter ID, cut registration, and purge voter rolls. There’s even a proposal in Arizona to allow the legislature to overturn the state’s presidential vote!

END THE FILIBUSTER, KEEP GOING FORWARD

Calling, emailing, and tweeting all work to get our Senators’ and Congressional rep’s attention. You can also write letters (though I would suggest e-letters or online comments right now).

Don’t worry, we have letter to the editor templates that make it easy for you to get started. Adjust them to suit your own opinions and style.  We’ve obviously got some big, nearly national papers, but here are a few that may be easier nuts to crack.

CUOMO

Also, the Cuomo situation is escalating quickly. Since our poll the other day, NY Mag published this piece about the toxic atmosphere in Albany and 11 of 19 NY Democratic reps (including Rep. Maloney) have called on him to resign. So have both our senators.
