Blue, Blue, We Want More Blue

Actions for Week of March 21, 2021

Keep GA and VA blue, stop GA voter suppression, and what you may not know about the American Rescue Plan

SENATOR SCHUMER MEETING RECAP

We joined nearly 300 other Indivisible members for a chat with Senator Schumer last week.

Turns out there are provisions in the  American Rescue Plan you may not know about.  These include funeral assistance, postpartum payments for new moms, child tax credits, aid to Black farmers, expanding broadband access, SNAP payments, and  PPP loans for undocumented workers.

So thank him and mention that on your social media accounts, if you have them.

He says his leadership team is the most progressive and the most conservative. So every view gets heard.

Going to put up S1 (expand voting access, early voting, end gerrymander), S4 (restore voting rights act), Equality Act etc. Has to walk fine line, and unify an unruly caucus (not easy).

Not sharing everything he plans to do to get there (because then it would fall apart)

Also, full cabinet will be seated this week!

Also, by the way, he's now reaching out to us, rather than the other way around.

STOP GA VOTER SUPPRESSION
5 – 7pm EDT

Make calls to top the Georgia legislature from passing voter suppression bills. These calls are to people of color in competitive red districts.  These calls are to cell phones, so you can text too.  If they answer, you can transfer them to their rep.

ONGOING

FLIP THE WEST POSTCARDING

Blue means better! Write postcards to red to blue districts to let them know that the American Rescue Plan is delivering the help they need.  This starts with GA and will move on to Nevada.  It works just like other post carding: you get a script, names, and addresses.  Then you’ll need postcards and stamps.

POSTCARDS TO VA

Reclaim Our Vote is writing Virginians to register new (or purged) voters ahead of the June 8 primary. The idea is to build a big, blue wave and make sure VA is as democratic as can be.

ONE HOUSE NY STATE BUDGET

The joint budget proposal is a good beginning, and includes some tax increases for the wealthy and a couple of additional tax brackets.   But, it’s not enough. It relies on one-time injections of federal aid, and doesn't sufficiently address long-term budget gaps. (more on this here: https://investinourny.org/)

TELL PA  VOTERS TO APPLY FOR MAIL-IN BALLOTS
4-6 PM and 6 PM-8 PM (pick your preferred time)

Mail-in ballots helped us win the White House and can help turn PA a deeper shade of blue.  Tell voters they can apply for mail-in ballots right now (it doesn’t stick from last year). And do it from the comfort of your couch.

If you need training, hop on the Zoom call half an hour before to get it.
