Actions for Week of May 9, 2021
Train to Text Bank, Reduce Greenhouse Gases, Mayoral Debates, and an Announcement
Announcement
We’ve decided to pause our monthly meetings. Instead, we’ll start weekly mini actions which we can do together. For example, the GOP is trying to restrict voting rights and “win” by cheating. We’re going to stop them.
We’ll start next week on Wednesday, May 19. Stay tuned for details.
Monday, May 10
GET OUT THE VOTE IN VIRGINIA
5-7 PM
VA primaries for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, the House of Delegates and many other local offices are this year. The off-year elections tend to lower turnout (about 30 percent less than a presidential election year). We want to increase that, particularly among voters of color. Make calls to remind people to get out and vote!
Tuesday, May 11
FAIR FIGHT TEXT BANK TRAINING
8:30- 9:15 PM
With Georgia, and other states, trying to make it harder to vote it’s more important than ever to make sure that voters can overcome these blatant attempts at suppression and make their voices heard. Team up with Fair Fight to learn how to reach out to voters, use their platform, and send texts.
Thursday, May 13

7 - 9 PM
Join NY1, John Jay College, NPR, Gothamist, The City, Citizens Union, and Social Work Votes (Columbia School of Social Work & Latino Leadership Institute) for the first in a series of debates between the Democratic candidates who would be mayor. Watch on your TV, online, or listen on the radio.

CALL FOR ZERO EMISSIONS CARS
Call Governor Cuomo and tell him to sign the zero emissions car bill. Script below (thanks to Climate Reality Project for writing it and Jonathan for forwarding it).
Phone: 518-474-8390. To leave a message press 3, then press 1 (This will let you bypass the recorded messages.)
Hi Governor Cuomo,
My name is ____________. I am a constituent from ______________ and a member of Indivisible Upper East Side. I am calling today to urge you to sign into law S2758, which would require 100% of passenger cars and trucks sold in New York to be zero emissions by 2035. Governor, according to the New York DEC, transportation emissions count for a whopping 36% of our greenhouse gas emissions! We must quickly address this problem in order to create a viable future for all New Yorkers – something your actions in the past have shown you care deeply about. Please sign S.2758 into law immediately. Thank you very much!

CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES
Join Team Freeland as we fight for a New Deal for New York. We are reaching voters wherever we can and we need your help to amplify our efforts. With regular phonebanks, community canvasses, friendbanks, and more, there is a place for everyone on our team. Making calls can be the easiest place to start since you can do it remotely and have the talking points right in front of you (admittedly, Billy does have a lot of plans). If phonebanking isn't your speed, we'd love to talk to you about other volunteer opportunities. Email us at contact@billyfreeland.com to get in touch.
Weekly phonebanks:
Tuesday Phonebank: 530PM-730PM
Thursday Phonebank: 630PM-830PM

Phone banking, Canvasses, Friend banking, and more!
Multiple Days and Times
We only have 6 weeks left to elect city leaders who will fight for all New Yorkers, not just the rich and powerful. As a journalist, Kim Moscaritolo has spent her career speaking truth to power, and as a longtime activist, she's stood up to powerful interests to demand real accountability. Join us to elect independent and compassionate leadership to City Council!

Cat’s Fugue
Legend says this music was inspired by Scarlatti’s cat, who walked over the harpsichord keys, and produced the musical phrase that became the basis for this fugue.
Can I go again?
I want a whale sticker (check out the teeny bandaid)! If you haven't gone yet, it's now walk right in.

It’s OK to go in the water, and discover how sharks navigate in the sea (without a GPS)
